The number of people seeking advice from The UK Insolvency Helpline Debt Help Service about how to manage their debts has increased by 50% in the last 12 months. The UK Insolvency Helpline is the UK’s largest insolvency specialist offering free, independent and impartial debt advice and debt help to everyone, without obligation to help resolve their debt problems

The debt advice service said, since 2008, it had been contacted by more than 500,000 new callers in England and Wales with serious debt problems. The number had increased sharply in the past few months thanks to the worsening credit crunch.
